Conduction is the flow of heat through solids and through direct contact of objects, such as a pan on a cooker.
Convection is able to occur in fluids (liquids and gases). As the fluid is heated it creates a convection current, which is illustrated in the diagram.
Radiation is the transfer of energy by electromagnetic radiation or waves.
Trapped air is used in a number of ways to help to insulate the home. In cold climates such as the UK this allows heat to be kept in the house during cold weather, but in hotter countries it is used to keep houses cool in the summer.
Many different types of animals have adapted for their own climates and habitats using a range of features. Its important to know a few examples of animal adaptions for both hot and cold climates.
