A neutralisation reaction occurs between an acid and a base, producing neutral water and a neutral salt. The product solution will have a neutral pH (6-8) which can be detected with a pH indicator.
Neutralisation reactions between acids and alkalis get more complex when metal carbonates are involved, due to the added production of carbon dioxide. It is expected that you can balance and complete neutralisation reaction equations.
There are two ways to make and isolate soluble salts. First, you can react an acid with a soluble base, forming a salt in solution which can be isolated by evaporation. Or, you can react an acid with an insoluble base, also forming a salt in soltuion. But, you must first filter off any remaining insoluble base, before evaporating the filtrate to isolate the salt.
Neutralisation equations are the chemical reaction equations for neutralisation reactions between an acid and a base to produce a salt and water.
